Students can use this resource to learn about the role of biologists in providing safe drinking water for human use.

In the context of the Stage 6 Biology Module - The search for better health - clean water is identified as a factor to help control disease. Students consider what practices lead to the contamination of water by organisms that may be pathogenic. A link can then be made between clean drinking water and better health.

Students need to understand what 'control' of a disease implies. Since not all organisms act as pathogens, students investigate under what conditions an organism is considered pathogenic and thus a possible cause of disease.
