Catchments
A catchment is an area where water is collected by the landscape. All rain and run-off water eventually flows into a creek, lake or ocean, or into the groundwater system.
The Sydney Catchment Authority drinking water catchments cover over 16,000 square kilometres. Nearly 60 percent of the land is privately owned and 25 percent is national park.
If you do not live in Sydney, the Blue Mountains or the Illawarra, where are your drinking water catchments?
The map below shows the Sydney Catchment Authority's drinking water catchments.
